54 hours from idea to pitch. Marc spent the weekend as a mentor, sharing first-hand founder experience with a room full of hungry minds.
What we are there for
What we bring to the conversation, and what we want to take home.
Startup Weekend is the format we would have wanted as first-time founders: 54 hours to try things that would otherwise take weeks, or that you would not dare attempt alone. We mentor because the questions founders ask there are the same ones we answer in operations every day: which problem is worth solving, and how do you find out fast.
Recap
The common denominator: everyone in full do-it mode and eager to learn. That combination is exactly what a format like this is built for: 54 hours to try things that would otherwise take weeks, or that you would not dare attempt alone.
Individual discussions showed that the teams do not lack the skills to find the right problems or to build. Most questions were about strategy and distribution, in times where building is cheap and fast.
The final pitches proved the point: ideas spanning mental health, non-alcoholic spirits, mobility and networking. Some surprisingly far along, some still rough, but almost all of them addressing real-life problems. What they lack is exposure to markets, and that only comes by going out there, testing the MVP on potential clients and learning from it for the next iteration.
Having seen what the teams pulled off in 54 hours, we are optimistic about who is building companies next.
